About Robin Hill Photography
2011 begins my 25th year as a professional photographer. Back in 2006 I had the good fortune of spending a few hours with my hero, Julius Shulman at the opening of the Glass House in New Canaan, Connecticut. He was 96 years old and still working and was in his 7th decade as a photographer which always helps to give me some perspective. (which as an Architectural Photographer is a very handy thing!)
I'm deeply passionate about my chosen field and strongly believe in the power of design to affect our lives in a profound way. I see myself as being an integral part of the Design community and my tool is photography. I've been very fortunate to have worked with some of the top names in the field, and much of the force of their creative work is displayed throughout the website.

Spontaneity, wit, passion and meticulous attention to detail are words which sum up the photographs and the photographer. Originally from Nottingham, England, Robin Hill has made a name for himself among the mid-century modern architecture of Miami, his home since 1992. His striking photographs examine the interplay of shadow and light, lines and angles, buildings and their natural settings. Active in preservation of the iconic MiMo style for which Miami is known, and a sought-after lecturer on the modernist architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright and Le Corbusier as well as MiMo, Hill brings his passion for architecture to the photography he creates. His unique sense of style, his ability to capitalize on spontaneous opportunities which present themselves, and his enthusiasm for his subject come together in vibrant, stylish and flawless photographs that are as iconic, timeless and striking as the architecture he captures. His work has been featured in countless gallery exhibits (most recently the Guggenheim in New York), books and magazine covers. In addition to being a photographer, father, husband, book collaborator and former TV host, Robin Hill is also a contributing photographer at PLUM Magazine, Florida Travel & Life and LUXE magazines.

How we practice photography: Interiors and Architecture
Dear Client,
Thank you for taking the time to visit our website. Robin Hill & Co, Inc Photography is very interested in your photography requirements! We’d like to take a few moments of your time to explain the way we practice photography in the hope that this will help you prepare to ‘team’ up with us and create beautiful photographs of your project(s). Through your understanding of the manner in which we practice photography, we believe we can achieve excellent results though open communication and a shared sense of creativity.
Pre Production
Before any actual photo shoot takes place, it is our custom to thoroughly educate ourselves about both you the client and your needs, and the location that is to be photographed. If possible we would enjoy a walk through with the client to assess design preferences, lighting concepts, location idiosyncrasies and important details, such as position of artworks, furniture addition/removal, floral requirements and crowd control. The walk through also enables us to accurately assess how long the photo shoot will take and at what times of day particular shoots can take place. Once that has been established we can provide you with an accurate estimate of costs. Sometimes, a pre-visit is not possible, in which case, we will be asking lots of questions in order to facilitate a smooth photo shoot. In particular it is critical to know at what time of day certain areas will be photographed and we would like to know your preferences regarding mood and atmosphere before the shoot begins.
Lighting
Our lighting philosophy is to shoot as if the photographer was not using any! We are very concerned with the original lighting design of a project and we try to enhance that design element rather than overpower it with our own lighting. This often means using available natural light and filling in with subtle lighting of our own. Of course in some circumstances, this is not possible and we have the necessary lighting set up to deal with any size project.
Shoot Day
Depending on the size of the project, between two and six people will be coming to the location to conduct the photo shoot, together with equipment this can be something of a disruption. Usually arriving early, before sunrise and leaving after sunset, we require the location to be somewhat controlled during the shoot, which means that the location often requires security and some degree of crowd control. Clients should know in advance that this a time consuming process and some set ups may take 2-4 hours to shoot. Other simpler shots, may take a lot less time, but the point being that generally it takes time to produce a quality photograph(s). In Public Places it is often best to shoot at times when locations are closed to the public, assuming of course you are not trying to show Grand Central Station in full flow!
Usually with interior shoots, we produce a photo full screen on a laptop before final capture is made and it is at this stage that we get approval from you, the client as to the set up of the photo. We may be taking several exposures and ‘blending’ them together in post production as is the case oftentimes with ‘contrasty’ situations. This requires a level of ‘stillness’ from all present.
Important details:
1). Security and someone to aid with crowd control.
2). Electrical system should be explained before the shoot.
3). All areas should be cleaned before the shoot.
4). Flowers should be delivered either the day before or day of the shoot for freshness.
5). Cars should generally be out of view.
6). All lighting should be functioning.
7). A/C should be on and knowledge of its operation should be known.
8). Although photography is a serious business, we like to enjoy our photography in an atmosphere of collaboration and creative partnership.
Post Production
The client will receive one high resolution CD/DVD and one low resolution CD of all approved photos. The photos are all ready for reproduction. We can provide prints upon request. We can also deliver your photos over the internet if that is your preference.
Robin Hill Photography requires a 50% deposit at least 72 hours before the shoot begins, with the remaining 50% payable on delivery of the photos. For your convenience we take Visa/MasterCard/American Express through paypal.
Robin Hill photography works worldwide with an emphasis on the United States and in particular South Florida, Miami, Miami Beach, Fort Lauderdale, The Florida Keys, Palm Beach, Florida’s West Coast and the Caribbean.
We look forward to working with you!
Sincerely
Robin Hill
